As the new healthy breakfast routine calls for avocados, eggs and green smoothies, the author wonders if we should occasionally allow ourselves or our family to eat something amazingly tasty but ‘’not very healthy’’ for breakfast like jams / marmalade, because of sugar obviously …and that’s where we need to step in!
Since we are talking about Hellenic Shelf’s superior quality products, and specifically jam, we must keep in mind that we are buying “clean label” products, with 70 – 83% fruit, without any additives that make the product suspect for anything.
Sugar is a carbohydrate where, in the amount of intake of a normal portion at breakfast will simply give us pure energy and since the raw material of the product is fruit, it still retains a very large portion of its nutrients. This was exactly the first idea behind the jam, to preserve the fruit not only as a flavour but also as an ingredient when it is out of season. So, in order to avoid a small amount of sugar, are we denying a large amount of nutrients and an explosion of flavours?

3) JAM FOR FRUIT-FLAVOURED YOGURT / SMOOTHIES
Yoghurt with jam is a delicious recipe with just a few ingredients, as it is a wise way to make a very healthy, tasty and enjoyable dessert. There are dozens of recipes that combine incredible ingredients such as nuts, dried fruits, grains and more, which you should follow and try every single one of them. It’s an all-day dessert, from the first taste you get in the morning to the last one at night, a super delicious and powerful fresh bowl that will save the moment.
As about the beloved Smoothies, add some frozen yogurt in your blender, some jam of your choice, a banana will help in the texture, some milk and/or some fruit juice or water (to help liquefy) and blend till the desired thickness.
Normally we should feel guilty for such a delicious taste but the truth is that the more we eat or drink of them, the better for our body!!!
4) JAM FOR YOUR CHEESE
A cheese-jam plate balances the flavors and while combining them with other complementary ingredients, we transform a tasty dish in to a myth. We want a balance of sweet, tart, salty and acidic and why not a bit spicy.
The jams are sweet, the cheese tends to be mild and fatty, so consider olives, light salty cured meats like prosciutto or mild cold cuts, acidic fruits like apples, grapes, anything could work.
Some good quality of wine, maybe beer, will complete and eventually wash out the combination and we start over again. That’s what a fancy cheese plate looks like!
5) JAM FOR YOUR COOKIES
Spread a generous tsp of jam between two of your favorite cookies and launch the look, taste and texture.
Bake your favorite recipe together with the jam in the oven, either in between or in a nest on top and get a more solid taste, a chewy texture, a delicious snack. All ideas of this combination create only perfect results.
